Floraart Zagreb, Croatia
The 44th annual International flower and garden show, Floraart, was held from 26 to 31 May in 2009, for the 4th time at Lake Bundek in Zagreb. The show was spread over some 30 hectares of open ground and about 2,000 square metres of enclosed spaces. The city of Zagreb sponsored the event and admission was free. In addition to 160 Croatian exhibitors, 15 foreign exhibitors were also present representing the 10 countries of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia and the USA. The show was opened by Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who praised those who had had the initiative to realize such a beautiful cultural event. Zagreb Mayor, Milan Bandic, also greeted visitors, explaining that seven years ago he had had the vision of decorating the area around Lake Bundek with flowers, with the Floraart show uppermost in his mind. He expressed his delight in having been able to realize his vision - for the 4th time.
Floraart visitors can admire stunning decorative plants, cut flowers, artificial flowers and ceramics as well as inspecting gardening equipment and many other associated products. But the show is not only for horticulturalists; there are also musical performances by adult choirs, children’s choirs, tamburica players and singers as well as puppet shows. Floraart is the perfect event to underline Zagreb’s lengthy gardening tradition.
Floraart is clearly an event, which will continue to be held for many more years to come.
