Chelsea Flower Show
The Chelsea Flower Show is held each year in May by the Royal Horticultural Society at the Chelsea Royal Hospital in London, England. The hospital grounds are transformed into splendid show gardens, incredibly creative small gardens and vivid horticultural displays. It is certainly the most famous gardening event in the UK, probably in the world, and has established itself as a part of London’s social scene. During its five days, the event attracts over 150,000 visitors including several members of the British Royal Family, who attend a preview of the show. The event presents horticultural excellence created by the world’s best garden designers and gardeners. This is the fashion show of garden design and a trend-setting event, the show at which plant breeders showcase their talents with their latest plants. The gardens are divided into four different award categories: show gardens, courtyard gardens, chic gardens and city gardens. The Great Pavilion presents over 100 fantastic flora displays, creating a kaleidoscope of colour, a multitude of textures and fabulous fragrances. Exhibitors from across the globe nurture their plants to ensure that their blooms are at their peak for the prestigious show. Those interested in the latest trends in floral art and floristry are also well catered for.
Awards are presented in four grades, gold, silver-gilt, silver and bronze, in a variety of categories covering floral gardens and exhibits, trees, vegetables and herbs, educational and scientific interest, pictures, photographs and floristry. There are also special awards for the best gardens in various categories and Royal Horticultural Society awards and certificates. All are highly coveted.
